Pay, Rent and Utility Review 2026
KEY POINTS AND INFORMATION – PAY, RENT AND UTILITY REVIEW 2026
· Portavadie continues its commitment to recognize and value, you, our amazing crew.
· Last year’s UK government decision to increase Employers National Insurance Contribution to a record high have put an additional burden of more than £100,000 on to Portavadie` s annual wage bill, just in one year.
· Inflation rate in the UK is currently 2.5% forecast to reduce to 2% by end of this year, 2026 (Uk Government/ Bank of England forecast)
· We have a collective responsibility to work together on a financially sustainable model to drive revenue and sales while controlling costs to create commercial success to continue investments in our people and product. It is the case that Portavadie continues to operate at an overall loss driven by very high electricity usage, very high insurance premiums (location), maintenance costs (repairs and renewals) as a percentage of revenue and 100% increase in rateable value imposed by local government. Despite these pressures, Portavadie board continue to be committed to all year-round opening, trading and tasking us to continue to deliver exceptional guest experiences across the resort.
Opportunities
· Upskilling, cross training and career development will continue to be a key focus across the business. A good example of this is the large numbers of crew trained in Emergency Pool Rescue and First Aid Qualified. Cross training in reception and retail, F&B and Reception continue to provide flexibility. Cross training and upskilling in Pool Plant training is ongoing to provide resiliance and upskilling of our people to support the operation.
· Reception actively taking more reservations, reducing 3rd Party call answering services and a push to convert more business direct with additional call handling and sales training being delivered in March 2026.
· Internal promotion – we continue to celebrate and prepare our crew for opportunities to grow, Josh Dadd, promotion to Marina and Facilities Manager, Laura Caplanusi to Junior Sous Chef, and Nicole Grant to Spa and Leisure Supervisor, to name just a few already in 2026.
